Big Green's McArdle to compete at NCAAs

Tom McArdle '03 has qualified for the NCAA outdoor track and field championship to be held at the University of Oregon tomorrow. McArdle and coach Barry Harwick headed out to the West Coast yesterday to prepare for McArdle's running of the 10,000 meters.

McArdle qualified for the NCAA's by virtue of his 10th place finish at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, CA back on April 23. McArdle's time of 29:10.37 was the fastest by a Dartmouth runner in since Tom Paskus '89 ran a 29:02.37 in 1989.

McArdle now has the fifth fastest time in Dartmouth history for the 10,000. Jim Sapienza '85 holds the record with a 28:35.68 while Bob Kempainen '88 is the only other sub-29 minute man for the Big Green, racing to a time of 28:42.31 in 1988.
