Princeton hangs on to first

With the women's lacrosse team winning twice over the weekend, including an Ivy League victory over UPenn, the Big Green is now tied for second with Yale in the Ivy standings.

The other Ivy teams were not idle this weekend, except for last-place Columbia, though their results did not change the league's complexion that much.

Princeton 14 " Harvard 9

The first place Princeton Tigers remained undefeated in Ivy play on Saturday by downing Harvard 14-9. The Tigers (4-0, 10-1) extended their winning streak to nine games.

Princeton was led by Kim Smith, who notched a hat trick and six points overall, and Charlotte Kenworthy who added her own hat trick. Lauren Simone added a goal and two assists for the black and orange.

The No. 3 Tigers have a matchup with Penn tomorrow before coming to Hanover this Saturday for the show down with the Big Green. That matchup will likely decide the Ivy League Champion, though Yale and Cornell can still muck up the works for the victor of Saturday's contest.

After playing Dartmouth, the Tigers will close out the season with a home game against Brown.

Harvard comes to Hanover tomorrow to play Dartmouth while the Crimson are still seeking their first Ivy League win. They close out the season with a last-place match with Columbia and a date with Cornell.

Cornell 8 " Brown 6

The Big Red, still smarting from the quadruple overtime loss to Dartmouth, was dominated early by the Bears, but made a run at the end of the first half and into the second half.

Michelle Allen and Sarah Fischer each netted two goals for No. 11 Cornell while Carrie Giancola made eight stops in net.

Cornell moves up to fourth place with the victory and could aid Dartmouth's quest for an Ivy title with a win at Yale on Saturday. Before that, the Big Red must tackle the Orangemen of Syracuse before closing out the season next week against Harvard.

Brown, who at 2-2, 5-5 overall needs a lot of help to win the crown, faces off against Yale tomorrow and Penn on Saturday. The Bears will see the Tigers as well before their season ends.

Duke 5 " Yale 2

Notre Dame 9 " Yale 6

The Bulldogs lost a non-league game against Duke on Saturday and then gave up an early lead to the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame yesterday.

Yale's sudden lack of scoring comes on the heels of a streak in which they scored 10 or more goals in seven out of eight games with only Princeton breaking the streak in a 13-8 triumph over the Eli's April 7.

Clarissa Clarke scored three goals in the two games to lead the Bulldogs who squandered a 4-0 lead to Notre Dame when the Irish scored nine consecutive goals to grab their program's first ever win against a top-10 team.

No. 7 Yale continues on to Brown tomorrow before a face off with Cornell on Saturday to end their Ivy League season. The Bulldogs face Rutgers and Johns Hopkins next week to finish their season.
