W. soccer wins in 85th minute

The Dartmouth women's soccer team (12-4, 5-1) defeated Brown (12-4, 4-2) by a score of 2-1 in a significant game yesterday afternoon at Chase Field. The victory pulled the women even with Princeton for the Ivy League lead while pushing the Bears a game behind.

At 85:00, Jamie Lang '02 scored the game-winning goal after receiving a smooth pass from Lea Kiefer '04.

Dartmouth had scored first in the game when Devon Haskell '03 beat Brown goalie Mary Jo Markle at 22:27.

The Bears' Caitlin Carey tied the game at 1-1 less than five minutes later, fooling Dartmouth goalie Kristin Luckenbill '01. Michaela Sewall earned the assist.

The two teams remained tied through halftime and most of the second half before Haskell came through in the clutch.

Dartmouth, ranked second in the Northeast and 19th in the nation, will conclude its regular season this Saturday at Cornell at 11:00 a.m

If Dartmouth beats Cornell and Princeton beats its final Ivy opponent, Penn, next Tuesday, the Tigers will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament by virtue of their 1-0 victory over the Big Green earlier this year.

If Dartmouth wins and Penn, which is 2-4 in Ivy play, upsets the Tigers, then the Big Green will win the Ivy title.

The Big Green defeated Brown 1-0 last season and 6-1 in 1998.
