The Dartmouth women's volleyball team won its third straight match Sunday over Brown to take home the University of Maine Invitational championship. Jen Madsen '02 was named tournament MVP after collecting 13 kills and 13 digs.
"I was completely surprised about the MVP thing," Madsen said. "I was just happy that we brought home the first of many trophies this season."
The Green beat the Bears in three of four games after defeating both Central Connecticut State and the University of Albany three-games-to-none earlier in the tournament. Ashley Dean '02 earned All-Tournament team honors.
The wins were Dartmouth's first three of the year following five straight losses on a Midwestern trip early in September. The Green lost four contests in the Valparaiso University Popcorn Classic to Western Kentucky, Kent State, Valparaiso and Ohio. The team also lost at Northern Illinois three-games-to-none on Sept. 12.
"It felt great to win all three matches in Maine after our slow start in the Midwest," Madsen said. "We always knew we could win, but it gave us a boost of confidence to actually go out there and do it."
Dartmouth will attempt to do it again when it hosts its own Invitational tournament this Friday and Saturday at Leede Arena.
