Baseball finishes off Brown

The Big Green baseball team completed a clean four-game sweep of Brown yesterday with a 6-3 victory in Providence. The game was a make-up for the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, which was postponed due to inclement weather conditions.

The big inning for Dartmouth was a three-run seventh keyed by big hits from Aaron Meyer '00 and Mike Mileusnic '03.

Mileusnic reached base four times in five plate appearances, going 2-for-3 with a single, a double and two walks. Meyer's two-out double scored two runs in the seventh inning.

For the fourth straight game, Dartmouth got a good pitching performance from its starter, as John Velosky '03 threw seven strong innings, striking out three and allowing only three runs in the process.

Pitcher Jon Miller '00 relieved Velosky, and threw for one and two-thirds innings to record his fifth save. For the game, Miller allowed only one hit while striking out two.

The Bears attempted to rally by scoring one run in the seventh and two in the eighth inning, but the Dartmouth lead proved to be insurmountable.

Aside from the three runs scored in the pivotal top half of the seventh inning, Dartmouth also scored runs in both the second and third innings.

"Our team was successful this weekend because everybody played a role," Meyer explained. "It was a joint effort, and when we stick together like that we feel we are unbeatable in this league."

"When you get fantastic pitching, great defense, and consistent and timely hitting you're going to win a lot in this league. That's exactly what we did."

Dartmouth, sporting a10-2 Ivy League record, has now climbed to first place in the Ivy League with its impressive 4-0 showing this past weekend. Harvard is in second place in the conference with a 9-3 record.

Dartmouth's overall record for the season is 18-11.

Dartmouth's next game is against New Hampshire College today at Red Rolfe Field. Following that, the team will travel to Plymouth State on Wednesday for a matinee.
