Baseball dominates in 19-5 win

The Dartmouth baseball team, playing for the third straight day, exploded offensively yesterday against St. Anselm's to record a 19-5 victory and improve to 14-11 overall. The Big Green, after being edged in the ninth by UVM Tuesday, sent freshman southpaw Jordan Glaser to the hill to face the 5-22 Hawks.

Glaser would go five innings allowing four earned runs and nine hits, all singles, before handing the ball over to Bryn Alderson '03 who hurled two innings allowing one unearned run.

Dartmouth second basemen Chris Miranda '01 was the story of the day leading off the game with a homerun to left and going on to knock two more doubles for a 4-for-6, five RBI, four-run day. Miranda has been playing impeccable defense for the Big Green and began to fire up his offense when he had three hits and two RBIs against Columbia on Monday.

Ivy League Player of the Week James Little '00 also continued his hit streak with a 4-for-5, three-RBI day, and his third homer in five days. Little was recognized as the Ivy Player of the Week after batting .563 on the weekend and for leading the team in at-bats, hits, doubles, triples, total bases and runs.

Team captain Brian Nickerson '00 continued to perform in the four spot in the lineup, driving out his fifth homer of the season while going 4-for-6 with five RBIs in yesterday's contest. Nickerson was on the Ivy League Honor Roll for his 8-for-12 weekend and for reaching base in 12 of 16 appearances as well as driving in seven RBIs.

Joe Rockers '01, making his first start at short in over a week, also got on the board with two hits, two runs and a RBI despite making two errors in the field.

The Ivy League also recognized Dartmouth Ace Conor Brooks '00, giving him his second Pitcher of the Week award in three weeks. Brooks' stunning work in Saturday's game against Penn saw him fan a career high 13 in 9 innings. Brooks became the first Dartmouth starter to strike out 13 in a game since 1987, when current Atlanta Brave Mike Remlinger did it. Brooks is also first in the league in strikeouts with 52 and second in ERA at a trim 2.13

Dartmouth (6-2 Ivy) currently sits one game behind first place Harvard in the Red Rolfe Division and has the second best record of the Ancient Eight.

The Big Green will travel down to Providence this weekend for four big conference games with Brown (4-4 Ivy).
