Men's Swimming
The Dartmouth men's swim team fell in a pair of dual Ivy League meets, losing 189-97 to Pennsylvania and 187-97 to Yale.
Captain Mike Vucovich '00 was the leader for Dartmouth against Penn. Vucovich won both the 200 IM and 100 fly, took second in the 200 fly, and even swam a leg in the 400 free relay. Against Yale, Vucovich finished second in the 100 fly and third in the 200 fly.
"I thought I could have done better against Yale, but for this point in the season it was okay," Vucovich said.
Nathan Fidel '02 also had an impressive day for the Big Green, taking second in the 50 yard free and third in the 100 fly against Penn, and he came in second in the 50 free against Yale.
Competing against Penn, Dartmouth took 2-3 in the 200 back, as Scott Gabbard '02 finished in 2:02.48 and Louis Fidel '03 followed with a time of 2:02.85. The Green finished 2-3-4 in the 200 breast, with Paul Schned '03 capturing second place in 2:20.54, and beating out teammates Aaron DeWitt '02 and Ryan Utsumi '01.
"We had some good swims and our butterfly and IM core is fairly solid," Vucovich said, "but we are very weak in breaststroke events and our relays are struggling."
Diver Scott Brown '02 represented yet another one of Dartmouth's great individual showings. Brown took first from the 3-meter board and finished second in the 1-meter against Penn. Brown was only able to earn third place in the 3-meter against Yale.
"It's tough when you don't have the horses, but admissions is finally starting to help us out," Vucovich said. "We have a lot of good recruits in early and some others committed to regular decision. With another year or two like this we could make a large jump in Ivy League competition."
Dartmouth's next meet is at Army on Saturday.
