Men's cross country earns bid

The Big Green men's cross country team earned an at-large invitation to the NCAA Cross Country Championship to be held at Indiana University in Bloomington on Monday. Dartmouth just missed qualifying for an automatic bid on Saturday as they finished third in the district race held at Boston's Franklin Park. The top two teams received automatic bids.

Dartmouth was one of the 13 teams to receive at-large bids yesterday completing the field of 31 teams for Monday's race.

This is the second straight trip to the NCAA Championship for Dartmouth as they finished 15th last year on a 10,000 meter course at the University of Kansas.

According to Coach Barry Harwick, one of the principal reasons why the Big Green made the field is because they beat six of the automatic qualifiers at the Pre-NCAA meet in the middle of October.

In the meet, the Big Green finished 15th out of 34 teams competing.

In the qualifying meet this weekend, the Big Green were paced by Adam Wallace '02 who finished fifth while Mike Cohen '00 ended his race in 10th.

Ryan Padilla '00 finished 11th and classmate Geoff Nickerson was four spots back in 15th.

Freshman Tom McArdle rounded out the Dartmouth five placing 33rd.
