Volleyball blanks Quinnipiac, 3-0

The last night of freshmen orientation allowed a special set of '03s to show exactly what they had learned since arriving in Hanover. Led by an exciting group of freshmen, the Dartmouth women's volleyball team defeated the Braves of Quinnipiac on the road by a score of 3-0 (16-14, 15-2 and 15-9).

Veterans Anne Murray '00, Ashley Dean '02 and Janna Merryfield '00 all contributed double-digit kill evenings. But it was freshman Anne Jakle who topped the list for the evening with 16 kills of her own.

Setter Jordan Schmidt '03 provided 11 assists in her two games of action for the Big Green.

With the victory, Dartmouth moves to 2-6 on the season, but will play for the first time at home this weekend when they host the Dartmouth Invitational -- a six-team event that will take place both Friday and Saturday.

They will host the University of Albany, St. Francis, Army, Howard and Seton Hall. Competition in the event will begin Friday evening at 6 p.m.
