The Dartmouth

Editor's Note

It's that time of the year again. Snow and cold winter weather are distant memories, the sun is out, the grass is growing (or at least it has been planted) and the campus is ready to celebrate.

It seems like a long time since we've had one of these big weekends. Our last one was not exactly what students expected. Winter Carnival was marked by the cancelling of all registered parties in response to the Trustees' surprise announcement of the Social and Residential Life Initiative.

While Greek leaders have said this Green Key will be similar to the ones of recent years and will not include large protests, it may be far different from the ones that will take place in the future. Of all the big weekends, Green Key is the most dominated by the Greek system and might change drastically with what College President James Wright has called the end of the Greek system "as we know it."

But Green Key is a time for us to put our issues aside. The weekend is a celebration of spring and the Dartmouth spirit - a spirit that will last no matter what happens in the future. Take some time off from worrying about whatever has been on your mind. Play in the sun, party with your friends or do anything else that makes you happy.

It's never been too hard to convince Dartmouth students to take a break and enjoy themselves - and I doubt this year will be any different.
