Bergren strikes again for Green

Lindsey Bergren '02 has played two matches on Chase Field for the women's soccer team and twice has she netted the game-winning goals.

In what was a match of two strong Northeast regional sides, the Big Green used Bergren's 57th-minute tally to defeat Syracuse in the first ever meeting of the two teams. 13th-ranked Dartmouth improved to 5-1-1 while the Orangemen dropped to 6-3-1 on the campaign.

This is the third straight match in which Bergren has scored. Last week, she became the second Big Green freshman to be honored as the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week. Classmate Jamie Lang won the award for the week of Sept. 21.

Dartmouth has dominated the Ivy League's honors for the first two weeks of the season. Melissa Roth '00 won Player of the Week last week and goaltender Kristin Luckenbill '01 collected the honor in the first week of the season.

Roth collected a loose ball and then slid it over to Jessica Post '00. Post threaded the needle between two Orange defenders to find Bergren who pushed the ball inside the right post and past Syracuse netminder Riley Wogamon.

The Big Green defense did the rest as Luckenbill only had to make two saves on three Orange shots.

Dartmouth, who is ranked second in the Northeast region behind University of Connecticut, has shut out its last three opponents and four of the last five it has faced.

The schedule only toughens as the weather grows colder, though, as the Big Green will tangle with Northeast powers Hartford and Yale in the upcoming weeks.

Dartmouth will meet the Hawks of Hartford next Wednesday in the friendly confines of Chase Field, while they take on Penn and Yale in the two weekends to come.

This weekend the Big Green continue their Ivy League schedule as they travel to Providence, R.I. to take on Brown who is winless in the Ivy League this season.

The Bears possess wins over Bryant and Holy Cross this year but could only manage a tie with Columbia and fell to Colgate 3-0, a team that Dartmouth defeated by the same score.
