Klepetar '98 to travel in Prague, Czech Republic: Klepetar will work at University of Prague

Many students spend a term abroad with Dartmouth's Foreign Study Program, but, for senior Amy Klepetar, the program was a life-changing experience.

This August, Klepetar will help organize and run the ninth Annual Geodemography Conference in Zaradky, a town in the Czech Republic.

After the conference ends, the senior from Gansevoort, N.Y. will work as the assistant to Geography Professor Tomas Kucera at Charles University in Prague.

Klepetar, who will graduate with a degree in geography, met Kucera while on her foreign study program in Prague. Kucera specializes in demography and population issues.

Klepetar credits Geography Professor George Demko for helping her to make a connection with the Czech professor.

While at Dartmouth, Klepetar sang with the Glee Club, served on the 1998 Class Council, skied for the Dartmouth ski team and rode with the cycling club.

Klepetar said there are many reasons why she would prefer working in Prague to climbing the corporate ladder.

"I don't think I would enjoy playing with other people's money and I wouldn't want to work 80 hours a week," she said. "To tell you the truth, I never even considered it, it's just not me."
