Jim Wright Was Loyal and Effective Dean

To the Editor:

Aaron Klein's opinion piece ["Faculty Politics Adulterate Appointment Process," Oct. 9] is the most mean-spirited student editorial I have seen since the bad old days of the Dartmouth Review. Use of "perhaps" in an editorial cannot justify character assassination, and the "facts" that Klein asserts might well have come to him in a late-night vision from Cloud Cuckoo Land.

Jim Wright was a loyal and effective Dean and was the creative force behind the new curriculum. He did double duty as acting Provost and acting President, and sacrificed much of his personal and academic life to maintain administrative stability at the College. I believe that Klein's poor judgment can do nothing but undermine the integrity of the students' voice in the Dartmouth community, and I believe that Klein owes Jim Wright a public apology.
