To the Editor:
On a recent rainy Saturday seven Dartmouth students spent nearly six hours working -- and I mean working hard -- at the Upper Valley Hostel on several projects to help make our home-away-from-home even nicer for out-of-town hospital patients and their families who are our guests. Specifically, they cleaned up and painted an entryway, and they dug post holes and helped install several sections of rail fence that both beautify and protect our parking areas.
This is our second experience with volunteers from the College's new DarCORPS program. Given the essential time demands Dartmouth students already face -- in completing their own studies and choosing from a wide range of college-related extra-curricular activities -- we are highly impressed with these young men and women who are willing to devote time to helping community agencies like ours.
Thank you, DarCORPS volunteers! And, while we're at it, our thanks too, to the Kappa Delta Epsilon sorority, whose members regularly help us with evening office duties. Thank you for giving us some positive images of college students!
