Article Was Misleading

To the Editor:

It is unfortunate that your article about recentered SAT scores ["Seniors' scores improve retroactively," Oct. 9] did not begin where it ended, with two paragraphs that accurately reflected my fleeting thoughts on the subject rather than two paragraphs that totally misrepresented those same thoughts.

The anxiety that seniors naturally experience when contemplating life after Dartmouth, does not need to be heightened by giving prominence to a non-issue such as putting recentered SAT scores on resumes.

Those who know me will attest to the fact that I would be the last to recommend that seniors "pad their resumes" by putting adjusted scores on their resumes " to add points." It would be a sorry commentary indeed if a hiring decision "centered" around the difference between a 700 math score recentered to a 690.
