The Dartmouth

Baseball rocks Brown Bears twice

The baseball team leap-frogged to the top of the Ivy League's Red Rolfe Division with a two-game sweep over Brown this weekend. The two stretched Dartmouth's win streak to 13 games while improving the team's record to 17-7 overall, 9-1 Ivy.

"Everybody's really excited about the whole season," co-Captain Scott Simon '97 said. "It's the first time we're in complete control of our standing in the league."

In the first game, the Big Green used their final at-bat to pull off a 7-6 comeback win as catcher Eric Anderson '99 ripped a bases-loaded single to send in the game-winning run.

Freshman Aaron Meyer was the loaded gun at the plate for the Big Green as he went 2-for-3, including a two-run over-the-fence shot to give Dartmouth a one run lead.

"Some of the younger guys have really done a great job at the plate for us," Simon said. "We've got some solid hitters who can put up the numbers for us."

Junior Dan Godfrey improved his pitching record to 5-0 with the win in the first game.

In game two, Dartmouth's lead-off batter Mike Conway '99 cranked two home runs to tie the school record. His first moonshot came during his first at-bat en route to his three hits total. He ended up scoring once and plating three more Big Green runners.

Pete Sellers '98 had some early trouble on the mound as he gave up four runs off six hits in the first four innings. Godfrey stepped up in relief to earn his third save of the season.

"We're doing everything we can to keep things going well," Simon said. "We also realize that there's still a lot of business we need to take care of."

The first order of business will be today's repeat double-header against Brown at Red Rolfe Field. The opening pitch will be tossed at high noon.
