The men's squash team continued their awesome streak, winning both of their matches in their double-header yesterday. In round one of the court carnage, the Big Green toppled Williams 6-3.
Co-Captain Jon Gabel '98 led the charge with a 3-1 pummeling of his opponent.
After that, things got a little shaky. After the first set of Dartmouth men finished their games, Williams held an early 3-1 lead.
But the Big Green's second wave stepped it up a notch to secure the win.
Freshman phenom Beau River '00 challenged a formidable Williams opponent at the top spot. After the first set, it looked as if River was in trouble as his opponent toyed with him all over the court.
River went on to win the match 3-2 with a barrage of incredible shots. Ross Hallock '97 clinched the team's victory with his 3-1 victory. Will Leicht '98, Ranjit Ahluwalia '97, and Tucker Richmond'99 each followed with wins.
Following the Williams match, the Big Green squared off with Wesleyan. With little difficulty, Dartmouth routed them 9-0 with all straight set victories.
With a 4-0 record against some very strong teams, Dartmouth is off to its best start since the 1956-57 season. Today, Bowdoin rolls into town, hoping to put the brakes on the Big Green.
Women blank Williams
The women's squash team rebounded from a disappointing loss to Yale on Saturday as they crushed Williams 9-0 yesterday on the Berry Courts. The match improved the Big Green's overall record to 2-1.
It took less than twenty minutes for the Green racketeers to seal the win as eight of the nine varsity matches were blowouts.
Co-captain Heather Duckworth '98 set the pace at number two as she blanked her opponent, 3-0. Shortly thereafter, Jenny Johnson '99, Carolyn Levine '00, and Brady Beale '97 all recorded shut-outs to snuff any chances of a Williams comeback.
In the only close match of the evening, sophomore sensation Laurie Sykes suffered opening match jitters before defeating her opponent 3-1.
After the match, Sykes said she was pleased with her team's performance. "Before the match, everyone knew that Williams couldn't compete with us, but no one grew over-confident. We all played hard and came out on top easily," she said.
