Over the Weekend

Men's Soccer: The Big Green ended their 1996 season with a disappointing 1-0 loss to Brown Saturday night. With 27:24 to go in the game, the Bears' Eric Block headed in a shot. Keeper Matt Nyman '98 made five saves on the night. The Big Green ended with a 7-8-2 overall record (2-3-2 Ivy).

Women's Volleyball: The women's volleyball team ended a record-setting season with disappointment Saturday afternoon at the Ivy League Tournament. Dartmouth lost to number four- seeded Harvard in the first round 3-1. On Saturday, the Big Green then fell to Yale 3-0 in the consolation bracket. See tomorrow's issue for complete season wrap-up.

Women's Ice Hockey: The women's ice hockey team began its season on a losing note this weekend. The Big Green fell 12-2 to a tough Brown team Saturday afternoon. Sarah Halsell '99 and Michelyne Pinard '98 both scored for Dartmouth. On Sunday, the Big Green fell 3-1 to Providence in a more closely contended match The game was tied going into the third period until Providence took the lead with 8:45 remaining and later scored in the final seconds. Kathleen O'Keefe '99 was the only scorer for the Big Green.

Cross Country: The Big Green women runners continued to tear up the run course this past weekend at the NCAA qualifier and the ECAC Championships. In the qualifier, Maribel Sanchez '96 led the Big Green to a second place finish by placing third in the competitive pack of runners. Kristen Manwaring '96 followed seven seconds later with an eighth place finish. In the ECAC race, Sanchez finished seventh, Manwaring ninth and Jenna Rogers '98 15th. Villanova easily won the race scoring only 37 points compared to the 77 points scored by second-place Georgetown. Dartmouth was fourth with 139.

Sailing: The Big Green sailing team ended its fall season this weekend competing at the Atlantic Coast Championships. The women's team traveled to Coast Guard, while the varsity squad competed at Navy. For the Big Green women, Carrie Gilbert '97 sailed with Summer Craig '97 in the A Division, and Amanda Ruscitto '97 sailed with Shannon Law '00. Out of the 15 teams that qualified for the event, Dartmouth placed 10th. In varsity competition, Casey Hogan '99 sailed with Heather Melanson '97 in the A-Division, and Dan Herlihy '00 sailed with Lisa Core '98 in the B-Division. The Big Green finished 12th out of the 15 qualified teams which represent the top sailing teams in the nation.
