Field hockey loses, drops to 4-4 overall

The Dartmouth field hockey team traveled to Providence on Saturday, hoping to get back on track versus a talented Brown squad.

In a game that was closer than the scoreboard implied, the Big Green were shut out for the first time in recent history, as they fell 3-0.

The team stepped up its level of play from last week's dismal loss at Princeton, but could not connect when it counted.

"We played as team and passed well, but we just couldn't capitalize around the net," Lauren Worley '99 said. "There were just too many unforced errors."

The Bears struck first in the opening half to take a 1-0 lead. That would prove to be the extent of the first half scoring as both teams battled for an edge.

Brown added another goal in the second half, and then added to its lead by scoring with 2:41 left in the game. The loss set Dartmouth back to the .500 mark at 4-4.

Dartmouth will try to regroup for today's game at home versus Sienna College (0-4). The Big Green are looking for a confidence builder to start a very busy and important week.

"We'll focus on pulling together and getting a big win to start a big week," Worley said.

Dartmouth will be traveling to the University of New Hampshire on Wednesday and then return home to face the Connecticut Huskies on Saturday.

The seven-day whirlwind schedule concludes with another home game versus the University of Maine a week from today.
