Mugshots to replace Over the Hill

After a long sabbatical, the upperclass facebook has returned. The Student Assembly will sell its facebook, "Mugshots," at registration today.

Mugshots will replace the Dartmouth Over the Hill facebook which was discontinued after the 1994-1995 academic year.

Like the previous facebook, Mugshots will feature pictures of the members of the sophomore, junior and senior classes at Dartmouth in a fashion similar to the freshman Green Book, Assembly President Jon Heavey '97 said.

The facebook lists students by class with their addresses, majors and Dartmouth Plans, but does not include designations of Greek houses under students' pictures. It also does not list students by first name or Greek Organization at the end of the facebook.

The price of the facebook will be set tomorrow at registration but should cost around $10. Over the Hill cost $12 before it was discontinued.

Heavey said he worked throughout the summer with Assembly Vice-President Chris Swift '98 and other members of the Assembly and administration to producing the book.

"It was a gigantic coordinating effort between administration, off-campus publishers, legal concerns and a few members of the SA," he said.

Heavey said the administration had concerns over the legal liability issues of the facebook.

"The book is not the official property of Dartmouth College although it has the Dartmouth name on it," he said. "There were issues such as people who don't want to have their picture published and privacy concerns.."

Because of the concerns with privacy, the Assembly had to send a mailing over the summer to the entire student body which a student could return if they wanted a different picture from their Green Book photo or not to be included in the book altogether, Heavey said.

"Unfortunately, we were not able to get all of the requests in there due to time restraints," Heavey said.
