Olympic Preview

Bob Kempanian '88, the best medal hope for the United States in the Olympic Marathon, will have to battle an ailing right Achilles, knee and hamstring in the grueling 26.2 mile race on Sunday.

Kempanian may be up to the challenge, however. After throwing up repeatedly in the final miles of the U.S. Olympic trials, Kempanian won with a time of 2:12.45.

Kempanian finished 17th in the 1992 Olympic Marathon in Barcelona and finished second in the 1995 Los Angeles Marathon. In 1994, he broke the U.S. record in the Boston Marathon with a time of 2:08.47.
