Lax teams claim eight All-Ivy spots

The Ivy League selection committee recently announced the members of this year's All-Ivy League lacrosse teams.

The Dartmouth lacrosse programs contributed eight players to the two teams. In addition, three competitors from the women's team were named to the North/South All-Star team this past week.

In the men's division, Scott Hapgood '97 and Tim Kennedy '96 were placed on the second All-Ivy team, while co-Captain Justin Boyd '96 earned honorable mention.

Hapgood led his team in scoring this past season, racking up 48 goals. He was second in overall total points with 55, just two points behind Tom Scott '96. In Ivy League stats he showed similar numbers, coming away with 20 goals over the course of the season for 21 points.

Kennedy contributed 31 points during the season to his team's cause.

Boyd, in the other end of the field, led the defense, combining defensive skill with goal-scoring ability. Boyd picked up five points for the Big Green.

The All-Ivy selection committee acknowledged the women's team's talent with its selections. The committee named both Kim Mendelson '97 and co-Captain Maura Schneider '96 to the first All-Ivy team.

Julia Morrill '98, Andrea Krumholz '97 and Kelly Hannigan '97 each earned second team honors.

"I definitely think these five people deserved it," co-Captain Lauren Demski '96 said. "They all played extremely well and consistently throughout the season."

Mendelson topped her team in points this season. She finished up with 41 points (37 goals, four assists).

Schneider, as a midfielder for Dartmouth's lacrosse team, was the fifth leading point-getter this past season. With 15 goals and three assists, Schneider notched 18 points for the Big Green.

Both Morrill and Hannigan made a name for themselves this season. Morrill, with 39 points (31 goals, eight assists), was the second-leading scorer, while Hannigan (16 goals, four assists) came in fourth.

Krumholtz's contribution to the team may not have earned her a high spot on the stats sheets, but those defensive skills certainly kept her team in the game on several occasions.

"I'm really excited for next season. [Coach] Amy [Patton] has excellent people coming in next year," Demski said. "The other teams in the Ivies are losing a lot of people."

"We'll have another year's experience under our belts as well. We should be phenomenal," she added.

Schneider and Samantha Sparks '96 were both placed on the North All-Star team, while Demski was named as an alternate for the team.

The North and South All-Star teams, chosen by a selection committee made up of Division I head coaches, are made up of a total of 37 seniors and four alternates. The teams were chosen from a field of 51 candidates from Division I and Division II schools.

The game between the two teams is scheduled for Saturday, June 1 and will be played at Homewood Field at Johns Hopkins University.

Sparks and Demski lead their team to defensive success, helping the Big Green to regain ball control throughout the season and holding the opposition to 139 goals to Dartmouth's 161 over the course of the season.
