Students Played a Big Part in Clothesline Project

To the Editor:

WISE (Women's Information Service) would like to thank the Dartmouth community for supporting and collaborating with WISE and the work we do.

Many students have offered their time and commitment as hotline, office and school outreach volunteers. Sororities and fraternities have supported WISE through fund-raisers. Professors have invited WISE staff to speak to undergraduate and medical school classes on domestic violence and sexual assault. On Saturday, April 13, a team of Dartmouth students, organized by the Tucker foundation, did housekeeping for us.

We thank The Dartmouth for highlighting WISE's work in the April 10 issue. However, we were disappointed the article implied that WISE is solely responsible for the Upper Valley display of the Clothesline Project. In fact, the Upper Valley display is co-sponsored by the Dartmouth Sexual Abuse Awareness Program, the Dartmouth Sexual Abuse Peer Advisors (SAPAs), the New Hampshire AmeriCorps Victim Assistance Program and WISE.

We would like to acknowledge the work and dedication of the Dartmouth Sexual Abuse Awareness Program and the SAPAs. Both programs have done much to organize and promote the Clothesline Project, as well as further the goal of ending violence. The Upper Valley Display of the Clothesline Project is as much a reality because of the Dartmouth community members as it is because of WISE.
