The women's track team finished in seventh place this weekend at the ECAC Championship meet, held at Northeastern University, their best finish in seven years.
The distance runners again came through for the Big Green, as they racked up four provisional or outright qualifications for the NCAA Championships and scored 28 points to be the top Ivy League school in the meet. Georgetown was the top team overall, winning the meet with 77 points. Pittsburgh took runner-up honors, scoring 59 points.
In the 3,000 meter run, Maribel Sanchez '96 won the event in 9:24.81. Jenna Rogers '98 finished next in second place with 9:26.88. Kristin Manwaring '96 set a new school record in the 800 meter run, finishing in 2:07.86.
Deirdre Milligan '98 had a fine day in the 5,000 meter run as she set a new personal record and qualified provisionally for the NCAAs with a time of 15:57.11. Amy Winchester '96 also fared well, taking second in the shot put with a toss of 48 feet, two inches and 14th in the weight throw.
The top athletes on the men's team were at the IC4As at Harvard, finishing in a tie for 19th place.
The two mile relay team consisting of Will Uppington '96, Jim Tuxbury '97, Bran Barry '96 and Tim Farrell '96 took second place, while Steve Clark '96 finished fourth in the high jump and Lane Burks '97 took seventh in the long jump.
Next weekend Manwaring, Sanchez, Rogers and Jack Dwyer '96 will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to compete in the NCAA Championships.
