The Big Green had to settle for yet another second place finish overall, as poor snow conditions and a powerful University of Vermont nordic team propelled the Catamounts to victory at last weekend's Dartmouth Winter Carnival.
The lack of snow in Hanover forced the nordic races to be moved to Stowe, Vt., UVM's home course, and the Catamounts took full advantage of it. UVM swept the top three spots in both the men's and women's races to propel them to victory.
Despite the unfortunate rescheduling of the nordic races, the men's and women's alpine teams made good use of their home mountain advantage.
Once again Jen Collins '99 proved untouchable, as she swept both the women's slalom and giant slalom in impressive fashion by winning both races by more than two full seconds.
Kylie Booth '99 and Laura Turner '98 came in right behind Collins in the giant slalom to give Dartmouth a sweep of the top three spots.
The men were even more successful capturing four of the top five spots in the giant slalom and three of the top five spots in the slalom.
J. P. Daigneault '97 led the Dartmouth attack in the giant slalom as he captured his first victory of the season. Andy Martin '96, Peter Ruprecht '98 and Andy Pennock '99 rounded out the Dartmouth scorers as they finished, second, third and fifth, respectively.
Ben Robinson '97 headed up the Dartmouth finishers in the slalom as he placed second behind Justin Yarmark of Williams. Jamie Reigle '99 and Daigneault also had top-five finishes.
The Big Green ski team goes back to business this weekend as they travel to Williamston, Mass. for the Williams College Winter Carnival.
