To the Editor:
I am writing to clarify a couple points raised in the article "Tucker starts new multicultural project" [Feb. 15]. I was quoted as describing the project as "experimental" education.
What I in fact said was that it is "experiential" education -- education through experience. Rest assured that neither Tucker nor Dartmouth Community Services will be experimenting on area K-12th graders.
I would also like to mention that the START program at the Hopkins Center also works with diversity projects in local schools, generally arts-related. In contrast, the multicultural project intends to focus more upon collaborating with teacher's academic curricula.
Finally, I want to point out that all three schools -- Thetford, Lyme and Ray -- have been conscientious about incorporating mutlicultural perspectives in their classrooms, and it is our aim only to enhance their efforts by providing them with an additional resource.
