International House Left out Of The Loop

To the Editor:

My response to Miranda Johnson's question, "Why Aren't You Putting Those Flyers Up?" [Feb. 1] is simply that I did not receive a flyer under my door, and so I had nothing to post No, I do not live off-campus. I am a resident of Brewster, otherwise known as the International House. I have enjoyed living here over the last term and a half, but I have found that as a dorm, it is somewhat invisible. We are often left out of door-to-door delivery of flyers and other literature; only once have I received a copy of "The Dartmouth Review," which, usually unread, litters the hallways of other dorms for days. Whether or not I agree with what is being said, I like to be aware of what is being said on this campus, so I can make up my own mind, instead of having to rely on the knowledge of others.

I find being left out of the loop extremely frustrating because I was left unable to express my approval of this flyer to my fellow residents, despite my wish to.

I choose to live in the International House because I want to get to know people from other cultures, countries, and backgrounds, and because I want them to get to know me, as a person. It is important to me to learn more about other people and to celebrate our differences as sources of knowledge and joy, instead of fearing them and transferring that fear into acts of hate. Hating what we do not know and making no effort to try to understand is nothing more than an expression of ignorance. And ignorance is inexcusable on this campus.
