Women's swimming crushes UVM 138-81

Last night, the women's swim stopped off in Burlington, Vermont. While there, the Big Green demolished the University of Vermont, set a pool record and raised their record to 3-4 and 2-3 in the Ivy League with a 138-81 victory.

"It's through meets like this that we learn to stay together no matter what the situation," diver Sarah Hobson '97 said. "We have to keep in mind that team goals as well as individual goals are important in every contest. We're in a building process as a team, and one of the things we're working on is coming together as a team. It's the team that is the most important thing."

The highlight of the meet came on the one meter diving board where Courtney DuBois '99 obliterated her competition, and in doing so, she dove better than anyone ever had at the UVM pool, setting a new pool record of 265 points.

Unfortunately, DuBois did not have a chance to repeat her performance on the three meter board due to an injured back, but Hobson stepped up to win, followed closely by teammate Erika Monahan '96.

On the swimming side of the meet, Erica Wygonik '99 won her first event of the season, the 100 freestyle in 57.87. She continued the streak, winning her second event, the 200 freestyle in 2:02.5.

Dawn Lawrie '97 also won the 50 freestyle and Kathy Luz '96 won the 500 freestyle, for a sweep of the freestyle events. Wendy Simon '98 took the 200 butterfly, and the Big Green swept both the 400 Medley Relay and the 400 Freestyle Relay.

"Coming off of a good weekend of competition and into a busy week of training and traveling, the team took advantage of yet another racing opportunity and carried our enthusiasm on the road to beat UVM," co-Captain Karyn Bysshe '96 said. "We had people swimming in different events, and as a result we called on different people to score the necessary points to win."
