Squash teams ready for upcoming season

The men's and women's squash teams last saw competition in early December up at Bowdoin in matches against Bowdoin, Bates and Colby.

The women shut out Colby without losing a single game. They also defeated Bowdoin 9-0.

The men were able to come away with three victories. They finished 9-0 against both Colby and Bates and defeated Bowdoin 7-2. In seven of the nine matches against Colby the Big Green did not give up a single game to the Polar Bears.

As they move into more competition this season the women's team will find much strength in its younger members.

Laurie Sykes '99 has filled the number one position, while Heather Duckworth '98 has been playing at number two. Andra Winokur and Jenny Johnson, both '99, should also be key players for the team.

Co-Captain Scott Hammond '96 will play number one for the men. John-Keith Wasson '96, also co-captain, will contend with Jon Gabel '98 and Tucker Richmond '99 for the number two position. From there the lineup will be a mixture of freshmen and veteran players.

Although many expect Harvard to be a powerhouse in both men's and women's competition, the Dartmouth players will no doubt be right in the heat of Ivy League competition. The women already defeated Brown 5-4 back in December and boast arguably their strongest lineup in years.

Under the guidance of Coach Chris Brownell, who is returning from a recent maternity leave, both teams will use match play in the next few weeks to get back into the swing of things. The first dual match in 1996 for both the men and women will be at home on Jan. 10 against Williams.
