Dartmouth staff makes United Way Campaign work

To the Editor:

Thanks so much for the article on this year's United Way at Dartmouth campaign, "United Way Campaign Kicks Off" in the Friday, Oct. 13, edition of The Dartmouth. However, I'd like to point out one important omission.

The sixth paragraph of the story states, "most money will be raised from student, faculty, administration and alumni contributions." What's missing from that statement is that Dartmouth's 1,500 staff members -- AP II and Service personnel -- are an extremely valued part of the campaign. Dartmouth staff members are the backbone of the UWDC campaign, forming the core of our 100 member volunteer group. Without their support and their efforts, none of our success would be possible.

Although they were not formally acknowledged in Friday's story, I and United Way would like the record to show that we value greatly the contributions -- in time and energy as well as in financial gifts -- of Dartmouth's staff.
