Greek Week, a united effort by the Dartmouth Greek system and other organizations to benefit the Dartmouth community and Upper Valley charities, will begin tomorrow.
Greek and co-ed houses as well as dorms and other organizations will sponsor events throughout the nine-day-long festival.
The events are non-alcoholic and open to the public. They range from sports tournaments and musical events to informational meetings and discussions with various campus resources.
Greek Week, coordinated by the Co-ed Fraternity Sorority Council, lasted only five days last summer, but due to greater interest within the Greek system this summer it has grown to include 20 events and will be nine days long.
"A great deal of time, effort and money has been invested by many people and by the Greek system as a whole into planning this event," said Sam Keating '97, the CFSC Greek Week committee co-chair.
All Greek houses except for Phi-Tau co-ed fraternity will sponsor the 20 events along with Amarna undergraduate society, Dartmouth Recycles, Mass Row, Gold Coast and Maxwell/Channing Cox residence halls, and the Cutter-Shabazz affinity house, .
Stephanie Moser '97, also co-chair of the Greek Week committee, expressed her excitement that it will give the Greek system a chance to contribute to community charities as well as promote unity within the community.
The events' proceeds will go to nine charitable beneficiaries: Hanover Chapter Youth in Action, a food drive, the Good Neighbor Health Clinic Dental Project, Headrest, David's House, Family Resource Center, the Listen Center, the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth and the Women's Resource Center.
Friday's events will begin at 5 p.m. with "The Jazz Mandolin Project" at Chi Heorot fraternity. Donations will be accepted for Hanover Chapter Youth in Action.
Sunday's events will close at 7 p.m. with a showing of the movie "FRESH" followed by a discussion at The Tabard co-ed fraternity.
A schedule of events for next week will be posted on Monday.
