Music professor's second tenure denial is 'incomprehensible'

To the Editor:

We, the students (former and present) of Professor of Music Paul Moravec, whole-heartedly support him in his appeal for tenure. We find it incomprehensible to think that one of Dartmouth's most committed and qualified teachers has been denied tenure not once, but twice at an institution that prides itself on its teaching and the quality of undergraduate education.

The Music Department will suffer greatly without Professor Moravec. He is a brilliant and important resource for all students of music history, theory, and composition and anyone else involved in the musical arts. He is a force of stability in the department, charting a mainstream course for the curriculum and reinforcing the department's academic rigor. Most importantly, he fosters a life-long understanding and love of music and is committed to the ideals of undergraduate music education and Dartmouth College.

Please consider Professor Moravec's appeal for tenure. In supporting him, you are supporting the students and affirming your commitment to Dartmouth.
