David Dorfman Dance Deserved Better Coverage

To the Editor:

As I was flipping through the May 23 issue of The Dartmouth, I happened to find a very odd-looking photo on the Arts & Entertainment page. In reading the caption, I saw that this was a piece titled "Horn" from David Dorfman Dance, the group we were lucky enough to have perform here at Dartmouth this past weekend. A group of 26 very successfully integrated Dartmouth students and area community members (ages spanning about 30 years) were featured in a piece called "Out of Season: The Athlete's Project."

What I didn't see, however, was the piece featured in the photograph, "Horn," which was indicated to have been one of the works featured in the performances. It seems that out of three showings of this inventive and energetic performance you could have sent at least one person to cover it. The community group worked many long hours to perfect the split-second timing needed for intricate moves and physical stamina necessary for this type of piece. It would also seem that The Dartmouth would at least have the courtesy to obtain a program from the event if you were going to mention it at all, especially if no one on the staff was dispatched to cover it.

My thanks and congratulations go out to the Dartmouth students and community members who along with David Dorfman Dance made this project an entertaining reality. Your hard work is noticed, even if it's not seen in The Dartmouth.
