Men's lacrosse rebounds from weekend defeat, crushes Yale

Yesterday, for the first time since 1984, the men's lacrosse team defeated Yale , using a balanced scoring attack and stifling defense to take a 15-7 victory on the road.

The win improved the 19th-ranked Big Green's record to 7-1 overall, 2-1 in the Ivy League.

Yale fell to 5-6 on the year, 2-3 in the Ivies.

Yale trailed the Big Green 5-1 early in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs would not lay down, rallying with three straight scores.

Dartmouth returned the favor, putting up three quick goals of its own to take an 8-4 lead into halftime.

Several penalties and substitution errors wiped out any chance of a Yale comback in the second half, and Dartmouth coasted to the 15-7 victory.

Todd Smith '95 led the way for the Big Green, tallying four goals and an assist.

Sophomore Scott Hapgood scored three goals and added one assist while sophomore Brian Merrit notched a goal and three assists.

In all, nine Dartmouth players scored goals in the afternoon.

Tom Zaccagnino led Yale with two goals and an assist. Peter Tourian had nine saves in goal for the Elis.

Goalie Ned Hazard '96 shut down the Yale attack, saving a dozen shots.

Dartmouth returns to action Saturday, when the Big Green hosts Brown.

The Bears are ranked 14th in the country. Dartmouth, still undefeated and atop the Ivy League, needs to pull of an upset to keep itself in the thick of the Ivy League title hunt.
