To the Editor:
As a member of the Programming Board I understand the impact on social options that the loss of Webster Hall would incur on the Dartmouth Community. Webster's unique capacity as a medium sized facility is crucial to many shows, concerts, dances, performances, and speakers here at Dartmouth. Without this facility, we will have no location to program such events. Collis, while a great facility for smaller events, and Alumni Gym do not have the capacity to support larger shows. Leede is too large to efficiently host medium sized venues. Leede is economically unfeasible for smaller shows. In addition, it is difficult to juggle available dates with scheduled sporting events.
Webster Hall is an invaluable resource to the social and intellectual Dartmouth community. It was built to serve the Dartmouth Community and does so best in its present capacity. I urge the college to reconsider its plans to strip the community of this resource.
