Support for Victims, Survirors of Domestic Violence Sure at Vigil, Untested Beyond; Credibility of Accounts Unquestionable

To the Editor:

As one of the organizers of Domestic Violence Awareness Week, I am compelled to respond to the Oct. 27 house editorial ("Speaking Out?"). Those who spoke out against domestic violence at the vigil -- whether by sharing a personal story or by standing staunchly in solidarity -- were not "shrouded by the darkness of the night," but instead unveiled the shame placed upon them by an unwitting society, and put a name to the violence.

We should applaud survivors' courage and strength, not question the credibility of accounts offered in anonymity. For the tears and the pain stand testament to the truth.
