This Saturday Hanover will celebrate Street-Fest, an annual event featuring prizes, live entertainment and international cuisine.
Street-Fest is a "celebration of summer" according to Clint Bean, the executive director of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the event.
The outdoor fair will include live entertainment, vendors and an international food garden.
The proceedings will take place on Main Street, Allen Street and Lebanon Street in downtown Hanover from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm. Sections of these roads will be closed for the event.
This is the 16th year that Hanover has had Street-Fest.
Long time Hanover resident John Engleman, a regular at Street-Fests, said of the event,"if the weather's good, it's a good time for all."
The Food Garden promises to be one of the most popular attractions. Located in the middle of South Main Street between Allen Street and Town Hall Plaza, the Food Garden will include a wide variety of culinary delights supplied by area restaurants, including Bagel Basement, Chez Francoise, Blood's Seafood and Lou's Resturant.
Lou's owner Patty Fried says that they will be offering their traditional "Street-Fest specialty: gyros and french fries."
Local merchants are delighted with Street-Fest and expect to do a brisk business on Saturday. Bean said that "roughly 12,000 people will attend the fair."
One lucky person will win a packet of gift certificates from Hanover area resturants in the Taste of the Chamber Raffle.
The Street-Fest is not only for local residents, although many students don't know about it.
Randie Thompson '96 said that she had "never heard of Street-Fest before." Porter Montgomery '96 said, "I don't quite know what to expect having never attended Street-Fest before, but you can bet I'll be there on Saturday".
