Jackie Schutt '96 sustained a broken wrist, black eyes and multiple bruises Saturday evening when her motorcycle collided with a car turning in front of her on East Wheelock Street.
Schutt said yesterday she is still in pain, but is resting and recovering. She said she went to her classes yesterday.
According to nurses at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Schutt was discharged at 2 p.m. Sunday, after she was observed in the emergency room overnight.
Hanover Police Officer Drew Keith said Sunday a green Jaguar, driven by Katherine Kearns of Louisiana, was eastbound and cut Schutt off. The car was turning onto North College Street in front of the Hopkins Center for the Performing Arts when the accident occurred.
Keith said Schutt, who was headed west, attempted to avoid the collision by braking, but the motorcycle's front wheel collided with the car. She was not wearing a helmet, Keith said.,
The impact severely dented the car's passenger door and ripped off the side-view mirror. The front and right side of Schutt's motorcycle were severely damaged.
Matt McGill '96, who was standing opposite New Hampshire Hall on East Wheelock Street at the time of the accident, said the car turned in front of the motorcycle.
"Jackie didn't have a chance of avoiding the collision," McGill said.
McGill said when Schutt braked, her back wheel skidded out to the left, away from the direction the car was going in.
Schutt said as she was coming up the hill on East Wheelock the car "turned right in front of me." She added the police told her that Kearns was looking for a parking space.
