Celebration planned

Hanover and other local towns have planned 4th of July activities to delight both the young and the young at heart.

Hanover will hold its second annual "Old Fashioned Fourth of July" on the Green.

A parade that will begin at the Richmond School on Hovey Lane and wind its way through town will kick off the events.

Line-up for the parade will be at 10 a.m. and the step-off at 10:30 a.m.

The parade will feature Vince and Larry, the Crash Test Dummies of television commercial fame, antique and classic cars, the Hanover Rag Town Band, which anyone can join, decorated bikes and neighborhood floats, according to Chris Vitale, Hanover's assistant recreation director.

The parade will end at the Green where Grand Marshall Lou Bresset, former owner of Lou's restaurant in Hanover, will greet spectators and begin the opening ceremonies at 11 a.m.

Activities and live entertainment will go from 11:15 a.m. until 2 p.m.

On the stage at the center of the Green will be various acts including the Foggy Mountain Cloggers; John Flynn, giving a boomerang demonstration; The Valley Chords, a women's barbershop chorus; The Flames, singing rock 'n' roll oldies; and the North Country Chordsmen, a men's barbershop chorus.

Also on the Green will be food and beverage concessions, a petting zoo, games, a cake walk, a watermelon eating contest and an egg toss.

The Dartmouth Outing Club is sponsoring a fireworks display at the Moosilake Ravine Lodge.

Vans will leave from Robinson Hall at 12 p.m. to allow time for hiking and lounging. Dinner at the Lodge will be served at 5:30, and then there will be fireworks-viewing from the summit. Dinner will cost $5.50, and dinner plus transportation is $8.

The town of Lebanon will be lighting up the night skies with a fireworks display at the Lebanon High School at 9:30 Monday.

The July Fourth events begin at 4 p.m. with children's games and live entertainment, including an oldies band. A men's barbershop chorus and bluegrass music, follows at 5.

On Monday, the 1996 Class Council will be sponsoring free canoe rentals for all '96s. There will be a barbecue on the island at 1 p.m.
