To the Editor:
Lately, the Trustees' decision to keep the Reserve Officers' Training Corps program has made a lot of news. Claire Unis '95 decided to get into the act with her column, "Three Lines That Hold Us Together" (April 21). Though she did make some good points, such as the merits of creating all freshmen dorms, she once again chose to attack what she called, with scorn, "mainstream Dartmouth," a group that I enjoy falling nicely into. Both the ROTC program and of course the Greek system fell under attack.
This however is not what bothered me, seeing as we have all heard these arguments against them time and time again. What offended me was her classless reference to the tragic accident suffered last Friday by Alpha Delta brother Jonathon Stewart '96. I think it was an insensitive and uncalled for move on her part. She can attack the Greek system all she wants (it will surely stand up to it), but her remark was out of line.
