The Dartmouth

Softball dominates

Dartmouth Softball dominated both games of a doubleheader this weekend against Amherst College, scoring 9-2 and 7-1 victories.

Ericka Lee '95 struck out six Amherst batters for the day as she pitched a six hitter in the first game and two hitter in the second game.

The Big Green attack also helped in Lee's effort with Co-Captain Jen Pitts '95 hitting two for five and freshmen Lauren McQuade and Jodi Priselac tallying two hits each in the victory.

Amherst took an early lead in the first contest with two runs in the third, but Dartmouth rebounded with nine runs in the four innings.

In the second game, pinch hitter Kelly Goodwin '97 began the Dartmouth scoring with a hit that put her in position to score the tying run off of a single by Pitts. Pitts scored the go ahead run on an RBI by McQuade.

In the seventh inning, Susan Warhover '95 and Kim Worboys '95 added two doubles and two RBIs to the game total for the Big Green. Pitts finished off the Dartmouth surge with an RBI to bring Worboys home.

Aside from the big bats, consistent defense kept the Big Green in command.

"I think it was our defense that really won the games for us this weekend. We want to play error free softball, so as to not beat ourselves." Pitts said.

Coach Hank Tenney commented on the promising future of Big Green softball.

"I feel that the College Administration has been very supportive of the women's softball program." Tenney said. "For the past two years, as a club sport, people such as [Dean of the College] Lee Pelton, have been helpful and suportive in seeing that the program gained a lot of respect."
