If you need to rent a car...

For those who do not have cars on campus, renting a car may be necessary for a road trip.

For the majority of the students at the College, Rent-A-Wreck is not only the best but also the only option, because it is the only rental car agency in the area that will rent to people under 21.

They will rent cars to customers 18 and older, but they require a major credit card and charge $5 extra per day for people under 21.

Rent-A-Wreck charges $29.95 per day to rent a car. This price includes an average of 100 miles worth of driving per day. There is a 20 cent per mile charge for every mile driven in excess of 100 miles per day. They have a special weekly rate of $180 per week.

For students 21 and older, there are more options.

North Country Auto and Truck Rental in Lebanon is the best option. They charge $25 per day, which includes 100 miles per day of driving. Each mile thereafter costs 22 cents.

Upper Valley Rent-A-Car has the same daily and mileage charges as Rent-A-Wreck. But for those who are traveling more than an average of 500 miles per day, Upper Valley offers an unlimited mileage car rental price of $34.95 per day.

They have a weekend special for Dartmouth students. If you pick the car up on Friday evening and return it on Monday morning, they charge for only two days of rental.

Upper Valley also offers a free shuttle to and from their office.

AVIS is the least expensive of the national companies. Located in both Hanover and Lebanon, AVIS charges $35 per day with unlimited mileage. It will shuttle students to and from its office.

Budget Rent-A-Car located in both White River Junction and Lebanon charges $36.50 per day and 5$ extra per day for customers who are younger than 25. This price includes unlimited mileage.

Hertz which is in West Lebanon also has an extra $5 per day charge for customers under 25, but the charge $39 per day for a car with unlimited mileage. But, their weekly charge, $195, is a slightly better deal than Budget or AVIS.

National Car Rental's rates are $41.95 per day and $199,95 per week. These rates come with unlimited mileage and National offers free pickup and return to campus.
