Director of counseling resigns

Dr. Michael Gaylor, who ran the staff of psychologists and psychiatrists for the College's Health Service, resigned Nov. 1.

Gaylor, the College's director of counseling and human development since 1984, said it was "simply time for a change."

Dr. John Turco, director of health services, said Gaylor's staff was competent and effective at integrating the office with other college departments.

As part of his responsibilities, Gaylor referred students who came to him with problems to the counseling staff at Dick's House.

Turco said Gaylor's ability to respond to the Dartmouth's diverse needs was crucial to the department's success.

Turco will form a search committee to appoint Gaylor's successor.

Dr. Bruce Baker will serve as acting Director of Counseling and Human Development until a permanent director is found.

After a brief vacation, Gaylor said he plans to become a consultant in private practice.
