Release education report

Students have still not seen a copy of an internal report on the education department that recommends its closing. That's a shame, because most students have strong opinions about the proposal.

Dartmouth's education department offers courses that help students understand more about their education -- as it occurs. The department teaches a pre-professional subject in the context of a liberal arts education, and traditionally high enrollments suggest that students find that approach attractive.

The critical report should be released to the general community because the education department deserves fair and open debate. That freedom of debate is at the center of the liberal arts education itself. The machinations going on behind closed doors are fueling rumors and creating a dialogue that does is not necessarily grounded in truth. Get the facts out, please, and let us have an open debate.
