The current role of the humanities in academia, both in the U.S. and around the globe, is in flux. Scholars gathered at Dartmouth this weekend for a summit that tackled challenges currently facing humanities departments and scholars.

Helman '80 recalls student life

Bill Helman ’80, who will start as chairman of the Board of Trustees in June, said he still remembers the words that inspired him to stay involved with the College after graduation. On his first day at the College, Helman recalled, then-president John Kemeny delivered a speech saying that the purpose of a Dartmouth education is enabling students to give back to society.

African leaders to visit for national program

This summer, 25 leaders in business and entrepreneurship from sub-Saharan Africa will come to Dartmouth as part of the Washington Fellowship, a new State Department program designed to spur economic advancements and strengthen democracy the region. Dartmouth is one of 21 institutions selected as hosts for the program.
