Men's hockey splits conference pair

Center ice, pressure on, alternate captain Eric Neiley ’15 goes right, left, right and comes back left to bury the puck in the back of the net — the Big Green’s first goal off a penalty shot in 12 years. Just over a minute into the first period, Neiley’s shot gave Dartmouth its first goal, setting the tone for the 5-2 win over Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

Track teams continue early season success

The Dartmouth men’s and women’s track and field teams continued their stellar winter seasons with strong team victories against the University of Maine, the University of Vermont and Colgate University on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Leverone Field House. This marked the second victory in two weeks for both teams. ?

Nordic and alpine ski teams runner-ups at Bates Carnival

Kicking off the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association Carnival Season, the men and women’s ski teams placed second out of 16 teams at the Bates Carnival competition held at Sunday River Resort and Black Mountain for alpine and nordic, respectively. Maine from Jan. 16 to Jan. 17. The Big Green finished with 854 points and trailed the University of Vermont’s team, who earned 914 points after winning both slalom races.

Last Sunday, many of us witnessed one of the greatest comebacks to ever occur in a playoff football game. The game perfectly illustrated why football can be such a thrilling ride, and how it can leave many of us craving more. The No. 10 women’s squash team notched two upsets in a successful trip to New Haven, Connecticut this past weekend. The No. 8 men’s team, also in New Haven, lost 7-2 to the No. 4 University of Rochester.

Tennis teams kick off 2015 season undefeated

The men’s and women’s tennis teams started their winter indoor season off strong last Saturday, with both teams seeing successful results from their home matches. The Big Green men dominated on Saturday, defeating both the State University of New York at Buffalo and Bryant University with respective scores of 7-0 and 6-1. The women’s team clinched a hard-fought victory over Boston College, with a score of 4-3.

Men’s basketball’s defense shuts down NJIT

In a low scoring victory over New Jersey Institute of Technology, the men’s basketball team led for all but 3 minutes and 11 seconds Saturday in a start-to-finish effort to beat the Highlanders 62-63. The Big Green's defense forced 23 turnovers for NJIT, a season high.

Dartmouth women’s ice hockey, scoreless through the first two periods, exploded for four goals in the third period to sink no. 5 Harvard University, 4-2, on Saturday at Thompson Arena, extending its own win streak to four and severing Harvard’s 10-game win streak in the process.

Men’s hockey drops two games in disappointing weekend

The Dartmouth men’s ice hockey team dropped a pair of home games against St. Lawrence University and Clarkson University last weekend. After an impressive stretch of hockey during the winter interim period, the Big Green has run into some trouble finding its rhythm again after tying with the University of New Hampshire two weeks ago.

Nordic ski team posts strong results at National Championship

In its final action before the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association carnival season, the Dartmouth men’s and women’s nordic skiing teams headed to Michigan to compete in the US Cross Country Championships from Jan. 2 to Jan. 9. Led by standout performances from Corey Stock ’16 and Patrick Caldwell ’17, the nordic team enjoyed a strong showing in the week-long event.

Kaitlin Whitehorn excels across events

The Dartmouth women’s track and field team has found a veritable gem in Kaitlin Whitehorn ’16. Less than a year after making history as the first woman to win both the 100-meter dash and high jump at the 2014 Ivy League outdoor Heptagonal Championships, Whitehorn isn’t showing any signs of slowing down as she continues to dominate across events in the 2014-2015 indoor season.

James Kruger ’16 on and off the ice

Something happens to a man when he puts on his mask. When he finishes his coffee, laces his skates, tapes up his stick, stretches out his body, he becomes someone else. When James Kruger ’16 skates on to the ice, he leaves behind the fraternity brother, the psychology major and the family man. When he skates on to the ice, he becomes a competitor. James Kruger becomes a goalie.

Women’s basketball tops Harvard

With a critical second-half surge, the women’s basketball team defeated Harvard University, 76-61, at Lavietes Pavilion this past Saturday to open conference play. After dropping both games to the Crimson (6-8, 0-1 Ivy) last season, the Big Green (10-5, 1-0 Ivy) proved it would be a force to be reckoned in the Ivy League this year.
