Senior Spring: Lucia Pohlman ’15, Dartmouth’s greenest athlete

During the summer of 2012, Lucia Pohlman ’15 was on a farm in Italy, far from Hanover and the rest of the women who would be coming to join the volleyball team at the beginning of the fall. Richard Mills advocates for change in town hall meeting

Gathered in Spaulding Auditorium yesterday afternoon, special collections librarian Jay Satterfield and College executive vice president Richard Mills addressed a crowd of approximately 70 faculty and students. The lecture was part of the fourth town hall meeting in an ongoing series of open conversations launched by Mills last October.

The Nile Project brings music, discussion to Hanover

After driving two passenger vans to campus from Portland, Maine, on Monday, several of the musicians who form part of The Nile Project — a collaborative group of artists from 11 countries along the Nile Basin who use music to draw awareness to and provoke discussion about the region — will pile into yet another van this evening and head to Thetford, Vermont, for a local musicians exchange. There, as part of its mid-April residency at the College, the international group will participate in a “jam session,” Hopkins Center publicity coordinator Rebecca Bailey said.

Ameer named vice provost for student affairs

Provost Carolyn Dever announced the appointment of interim Dean of the College Inge-Lise Ameer to the newly created position of vice provost for student affairs, effective July 1, 2015, in a campus-wide email circulated Monday morning. In addition, Dever announced the launch of an internal search for a new dean of the College, which will begin later in April.

When Madeline Abbott ’15 auditioned for the student-produced musical “To Slay A Demon,” a musical based on the cult show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (1997), this winter , she had no idea that she would land the lead role. Prior to this audition, Abbott had not done any sort of theater since she was in high school.

Baseball sweeps four-game Yale series for first time in his

Break out the brooms and call in the cleaning crew because last weekend the baseball team completed its first sweep of the season in a four game series against Yale University (10-18, 2-8 Ivy) — the first clean sweep of the Bulldogs at Yale in program history since the back-to-back double header schedule was instituted in 1993.

Softball sweeps four games against Yale for an 11-1 Ivy League record

The softball team traveled to New Haven, Connecticut, this past weekend to play two doubleheaders against Yale University (7-16, 2-8 Ivy) on Saturday and Sunday, winning all four games and improving its record against Ivy League schools to a conference-leading 11-1. The Big Green (18-13, 11-1 Ivy) went on the board early in the first game as leadoff hitter Katie McEachern ’16 started the weekend with a home run to center field.

Alpha Delta fraternity derecognized, will appeal

The College has derecognized Alpha Delta fraternity as a student organization, effective April 20, College spokesperson Diana Lawrence wrote in an email. The decision was related to the branding of new members last fall, when the fraternity was already under suspension.

200 students participate in first hackathon

Computer science department chair Tom Cormen said that in this age of technology, his mantra is “if you can’t compute, you can’t compete.” This weekend, about 200 students — including students from the College and several other schools — put this idea into practice at HackDartmouth — the College’s inaugural student-run hackathon — where they divided into teams to develop a web or mobile application.
