A 23 year-old female was assaulted near Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center on Sunday afternoon, Safety and Security Director Harry Kinne announced in a campus crime alert emailed to campus yesterday. According to the report, the Lebanon Police Department received a call at 5:40 p.m. on Sunday from a victim on Loop Road reporting that a male had physically assaulted her, throwing her to the ground. The suspect, described as a fair-skinned white male wearing a dark hoodie with dirty blond hair, fled in a dark-colored sedan. The victim suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment, and there is no known connection between her and the suspect. The investigation by the Lebanon Police Department is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the department at 603-448-1212.

The College is temporarily suspending recycling activity at collection points near certain dining locations on campus. The change is a result of contamination of recycling with regular and food waste, College spokesperson Diana Lawrence said in a statement. Collis Cafe, the Hop Courtyard Cafe and King Arthur Flour are such areas of high contamination, which has resulted in difficulties in processing for the recycling facility. The Class of 1953 Commons has not been affected by this contamination. The College is currently working with the facility to identify and resolve the issue.

Dartmouth’s endowment posted a 1.9 percent investment loss for the fiscal year that ended June 30, according to a press release on Friday by the College. The overall endowment value now rests at $4.5 billion, reflecting a 4 percent decline from last year’s figure of about $4.7 billion.

College President Phil Hanlon announced the creation of the Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society at the College in an email to campus this morning. The announcement comes a year after Hanlon appointed a task force to analyze the possibility for such an institute’s creation, with the goal of consolidating interdisclipinary resources at the College to solve the world’s most pressing energy problems.
Gifts and commitments to the College for the 2016 fiscal year totaled over $318.8 million, a 2.8 percent increase from the previous year’s record-setting level of giving. The money will address a wide range of initiatives across campus, including research, athletics and the new housing communities.
