The men and women saw solid finishes from several of their athletes, highlighted by a first-place finish in the shot put by Jamila Smith '06 for the women and second-place finishes from Ikechi Ogbonna '06 in the 60-meter hurdles and Mike Carmody '08 in the 800-meter run for the men.

The men scored 177.5 points to UNH's 144.5 and Vermont's 25, while the women totaled 145.5 to edge out New Hampshire's 124.5 and Vermont's 79. Both teams have traditionally had close meets with UNH, with the final relay serving as the deciding factor. This year, however, the men and women performed well enough to ensure victory before the final event.

For the Dartmouth men's cross country team, this will be the longest season it has had in years. Not since 2001 has the Big Green secured a bid to the NCAA Championships, but today, the men will again return to the national stage, running against 30 of the country's top programs in Terre Haute, Ind. For one of Dartmouth's women, however, this will be a second and final time to run at the national level.

The Big Green men continued to trample the competition Friday, placing its first five in the top 12, including a first place finish from Ben True '08, to win the Ivy League title in the Heptagonal Championships, held at Van Cordlandt Park in New York City. The women, meanwhile, saw solid runs from its top two, but could only muster enough behind them to take seventh.

The Big Green cross country teams ran into a nationally stacked field at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind., this Saturday, but proved up to the challenge with strong finishes on both the men's and women's side. The men finished fifth out of 33 in the blue race, propelling them into the top 15 Division I programs nationally, while the women placed 19th out of 34 in the white race, led by the top-10 finish of Melanie Schorr '06.

The Big Green runners put on a show of depth this weekend at the New England Championships in Boston, giving the top seven runners on each team a weekend of rest as the men finished fourth and the women 23rd with their second varsity teams.

Dartmouth's cross country teams were in split-squad action this weekend, but still had enough manpower on each team to leave the competition in the dust. Dartmouth's men placed second in both Maine's Murray Keatinge Invitational and at the Keene State Invitational, while the women took third at Keatinge and first at Keene.
