This week, I sat down with Andy Simpson ’15 of the men’s hockey team (17-10-4, 12-8-2), which just swept Princeton University in the first round of the 2015 ECAC Men’s Hockey Championship. The team will play Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, next weekend. Simpson has played in all 31 of the Big Green’s games this season.

This week, I sat down with Jacqueline Crawford ’17 of the women’s tennis team. The team recently jumped to No. 22 in the national rankings after winning the ECAC Championship for the first time in program history. This past weekend, the Big Green women defeated the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, 4-3.

This week, I sat down with men’s basketball’s Miles Wright ’18. This season, Wright became the second Big Green player to be named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for two consecutive weeks, while also earning the accolade of Northeast Credit Union Athlete of the Week this past week.

This week, I sat down with swimming’s Taylor Yamahata ’18. This weekend, Yamahata led the Big Green in a narrow loss to the University of Connecticut, finishing with individual victories in the 200-yard IM and the 100- and 200-yard backstroke. She picked up another first as part of the 200-yard medley relay.

This week I sat down with Fabian Stocek ’17. The skier won his first Carnival race in the 10K at the St. Michael’s Carnival at Sleepy Hollow and Smuggler’s Notch this weekend, helping the Big Green finish in second place after the first day of competition.

Men’s basketball power forward Connor Boehm drained a buzzer-beating three-pointer to lead the Big Green to victory against Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne on Nov. 28, earning Boehm a SportsCenter Top 10 play. This week I spoke with Boehm about the ups and downs of the Big Green’s 2014-2015 season, pre-game rituals and becoming an upperclassman on the team.

Finishing with an impressive combined time of 11:02.21, the fierce foursome earned themselves a spot in the NCAA Championships.

This week I sat down with Alex Mitola ’16, the starting point guard on the men’s basketball team, to discuss the team’s season so far. The team lost to Harvard University 50-80 yesterday at Leede Arena, dropping to 7-9, 0-2 Ivy this season. After a 7-4 start, the team has now lost five in a row as it heads into the teeth of its Ancient Eight schedule, preparing to host the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University next weekend.

She was a member of the New Zealand U-17 FIFA World Cup team that traveled to Trinidad and Tobago in 2010, the U-20 team in 2011 and a member of the New Zealand national team since 2011. Patterson earned a spot on the NZ secondary schools team in soccer, cricket and track during her time at the Waikato Diocesan School for Girls. In the 2010 tournament, Patterson played 255 minutes in all three of the team's matches, registering one assist. Her standout performance in the international tournament helped to earn her a spot on the national team that is competing for a berth in the 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada.

Over the weekend, the men's team won the Division I championship at the New England Open in Hamilton, Mass., finishing the season undefeated against New England teams. The team's biggest competitors included Harvard University, currently ranked 12th nationally, and 13th-ranked Tufts University. The Big Green is currently in 20th, but their wins from this past weekend could bump them up to 18th, securing them a spot in the national college championship with Tufts and Harvard.

Although the specific impact of these changes on the Ivy League, and Dartmouth, may not be as dramatic as on larger conferences, they will force administrators and coaches to reassess how they recruit high school athletes.

A few months ago, assistant women's soccer coach Brittany Cameron was cheering for the Big Green from the sidelines as the team won its last seven games in a row, posting the second-best winning percentage in school history. Now, the roles have now reversed, as the women's team cheers on Cameron when she joins the Sky Blue FC National Women's Soccer professional team this spring in her fifth year of professional play.
